Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GN Bank, Mr. Patrick Anumel, on Monday, March 6, 2016 launched a comprehensive book entitled; “Choosing Your Career Path.”
The 203-page book, which was written by the Administrator in charge of Records and Information at Qualtek Ghana Limited, Miss Baaba Mirekuah, a native of Agona Nyakrom, in the Central region, was sub-headed: “Discover Your Path, Start the Journey.”
It defines the roles of parents in career planning process with a roadmap to help them clearly define the career path for what their wards want to take.
The book further discloses vital information to helping young people know who they are, explore careers they can pursue, make proper plans, network with focus, build personal development skills and values that will prepare them for career success in the real world.
Launching the book in Accra, Mr. Anumel commended Miss Mirekuah who was a product of the Department of Information Studies in University of Ghana, Legon, for putting ideas together to write a book which would guide young people to achieve their career.
Flanked by the Senior Vice President (Legal), Groupe Nduom, Mr. Papa Wassa Chiefy Nduom, and; General Manager of Software Development Department at Qualtek, Mr. Martin Owusu, and; Banking and Financial Consultant, Masihur Rhaman, Mr. Anumel suggested that planning should be the first stage in every human endeavour towards successful implementation.
According to him, a lot of projects and other human activities have failed because of a lack of proper planning or an ineffective planning.
He noted that pursuing a career was no exception to this fundamental principle.
He added that it was from this perspective that the author decided to put together ideas, principles, theories and practical experiences to make up general guidelines for the purpose of assisting the youth in their plans to pursue a successful career for their future.
Mr. Anumel noted that readers will find the book extremely useful while developing “our youth for the future.”
For his part, Mr. Chiefy Nduom called on Ghanaians to choose a successful career to enable them reach their full potential in order to promote socio-economic growth and development of the country.
“Maintaining a successful career requires hard work, determination and focus,” Mr. Chiefy Nduom, who is lawyer by profession, stressed.
Speaking in an interview with Today, Miss Mirekuah stated that the book answers burning questions on “choosing your career path.”
Miss Mirekuah, a 28-year-old woman, told Today that she decided to write the book because she realises that most of the youth were not fully aware of what they want to become in Ghana and most parts of Africa.
To this end, she encouraged all Ghanaians, particularly parents, to get the copy of the book because of their defined role in the career planning process since a lot of people faced challenges in their career choices.
She explained to Today that from age ten (10), career dreams of most people continues to swing back and forth until they give in to pressures from parents or friends to follow a career path out of their areas of interest
According to her, the students finally have a hands-on guide to know exactly what to study in senior secondary school and courses it would lead them in the various tertiary institutions.
“Professionals from various fields shared their own stories and challenges they confronted in their line of careers to motivate the readers on how to choose their career path and also included questions and answers on what grade you should attain to be able to pursue the career you want,” she averred.
She added that there is a portion in the book known as “Your Career Plan” where people can fill in whatever they want after knowing who they are, and how to pursue it.”
“So here, they are actually writing a career path for the future. Most people turn to give up when they have bad grades without realising there are other choices they can choose from which I have listed in my book diverse choices they can make to help them know all hope is not yet lost,” she disclosed.
Miss Mirekuah pointed out that the motivation behind her book was a lead from her first book which was entitled: “The Winning Sperm,” which was written and published in 2013.
She disclosed that copies of the book can be found in the University of Ghana Bookshop
